Desirable metals such as gold, tin, tungsten and tantalum are used in gadgets, computers and wiring for just about every product available. But in war torn Congo, these minerals are mined and sold to finance wars. You may have heard of conflict or blood diamonds, well these "Conflict Minerals" are the same thing. I shouldn't have to choose between buying a cellphone or preventing violence in a war torn part of Africa. So I wrote to Steve Jobs and told him I want a solution.
I've read so many "ipad killer" articles that I'm starting to really wonder what is going on with tech journalists! As a nerd I happily enjoy gadget candy whenever it comes my way, but as a writer I have to do go beyond mere drooling over technology. The iPad finally turns mobile computing into anytime, anywhere, something that laptops and even netbooks don't do as successfully. If you're looking at iPad alternatives you will see them here, but will these tablets be able provide the right amount of features? I don't think so.
Here is the video of my Core i7 Hackintosh. It is a dual boot system running Snow Leopard and Windows 7 64bit. The video will provide you with an overview of how I put the machine together with enough information to give you a concept of what it was like to get Snow Leopard running. Combine the video, tech specs and guides you find to make your own.
The iPad is fodder for everyone with an opinion and a blog, and now it is President Obama's turn to add his thoughts. I was prompted by the recent statement to discuss the discussion of the iPad. The iPad is new and its use is difficult to define. It is not revolutionary technology, but for many people it's a revolutionary gear shift in how we consume information and create our own. People are wrapping their heads around it and trying to decide if it is good or bad, in more ways than one.
The floppy disk is reaching the end of its lifespan. Sony will be ending its production by March 2011. Most people won't care, businesses will finally get rid of their stockpile of diskettes, and PCs won't have that "look" anymore. The one that says "You know I'm boring because I use technology that was useless 10 years ago." Your work PC won't look cool and it never will, but maybe it means that chunk of space can be appropriated for better design, such as a mug warmer for your morning coffee.
