Antarctic Simulator 1914
Heroes Of The Antarctic

AN EDUCATIONAL GAME

For Boffins and Gamers Alike

Picture
Historical and scientific accuracy is an undervalued aspect of reality-based games.  All too often, facts are left behind in order make a game more "fun." I believe that you can craft an experience that is rich with information and still be engaging, challenging, and immersive.

Every explorer in the game is pulled from the history books. Choosing a member of your crew involves learning about their history and personality, not just their stats.

Heroes in the Classroom

Picture
Antarctic Simulator 1914: Heroes of the Antarctic is a fast paced game and can easily be enjoyed during a single class period.  A single session can be finished in 20-40 minutes of real time. Sooner if you make terrible choices and kill your crew.

The most common lesson durations in grade school seem to be 28, 38, 55, and 80 minutes - all times are long enough for students to play while supplementing their gameplay with contextual information from their teachers.

Understanding Leadership

The game does not penalize the player for failing to reach the South Pole, instead it emphasizes decision making under difficult circumstances.
Picture
Robert Falcon Scott reached the South Pole, but his over ambitious attempt to get there first cost him his life and killed his crew.  Or was it just the weather?

Picture
Ernest Shackleton never made it to the South Pole, but despite horrific odds, he returned his entire crew home safely. Should he have been more ambitious?

History acknowledges both men as courageous leaders, and Antarctic Simulator 1914: Heroes of the Antarctic will judge the player in the same way.  Do you want to be bold and risk your crew's lives for the prize, or protect them but have to try again with a different strategy?
